Alan Davie Ltd has been in business since it started carrying other farmers' loads as well as their own in the 1970s. The business has gone from strength to strength, with a reputation for honesty, clear communication and excellent customer service.
Alan Davie is rooted in Scotland, with bases in Dundee and Forfar but it has a UK-wide reach. It has a modern fleet of more than 50 vehicles, and fully secured warehousing. It serves a wide swathe of British industry including the retail industrial, manufacturing, agricultural and electronics sectors.
Along with his father (also Alan) Alan bought his first lorry in 1978 to add to their farming business. Alan's first foray into haulage was a daily route from Montrose to Dundee. When Alan Senior died, Alan began building up the haulage business, covering this daily route and other local work.
Alan's three sons grew up understanding the family business well and when they left school, they each joined. The business grew consistently, with a more versatile and larger fleet and a growing repertoire of local distance work and always underpinned by the need to couple modern efficiency with their traditional family-firm values.
The middle son, also an Alan, left to pursue his own career, while Ian and Euan have remained within the business. Like Alan senior, they are totally dedicated to the business.
The business has expanded over the years in terms of premises, and areas of expertise, including its decision to join TPN - THE Pallet Network. It now delivers up to 320 pallets a day around the north of Scotland.
Alan Davie is proud to be an important and stable local employer, with 65 full-time workers. His grandchildren occasionally work in the business, the fourth generation of Davies to be involved. This makes us very rooted in our community and its success, and our commitment to the well being of our team members and our local community goes well beyond the nine to five of the working day.
We are proud of our contribution to the Scottish economy, to our place within the Dundee and Forfar communities and of the awards we have won which have brought credit to our teams and our homes.
